Penny Heyns
Penny Heyns is one of South Africa's most prominent swimmers, with an amazing 13 world records in the time frame of three months this incredible athlete has something that we can learn from.
Penny built confidence by training the hardest possible every day and she believed that she trained harder than anyone else in the water, witch gave her the mind set of being the best and having the ability to go that bit further because she new that she had done more than any one in the race. She also believed before the race began that she had control over it. She went about this in many ways but one that we can all try is, after the starter blows their whistle we would let every one get on the blocks then let them wait for us because it is our race and we control it. This is a method that Penny used regularly to enforce her authority over race.
Penny also tells us of visualization that she did, and that it is no new skill. She says that she new the exact amount of strokes that it took to the wall that would grab her the win because, she had replayed this race so many times in her head.
She is also the only women in the history of the Olympic games to win both the one hundred and two hundred meters breast stroke. Here are some of her results:
